Oak Wilt Pros trenches to 52″, exceeding the Texas Forest Service minimum depth, to help increase the success rates of trenches. Trenches must be cut at least 100ft from disease to help ensure you are ahead of disease movement in the root systems. Deep root areas may call for further excavation depending on topography and soil composition.

What is Oak Wilt?

Oak wilt is an infectious disease caused by the fungus Bretziella fagacearum, which invades and disables the water-conducting system (xylem) in oaks.

Steps to preventing oak wilt include eliminating diseased oaks, handling firewood properly, proper timing of pruning, and painting wounds on healthy oaks.

How do you treat Oak Wilt?

Our certified arborist will develop an Oak Wilt treatment plan of care for your trees. Treatment may include injection of fungicide or trenching to prevent the spread of the pathogen.

Paint your wounds!

Follow proper pruning guidelines and remember to paint your wounds! We recommend painting year-round. Also, avoid pruning from February-July and perform tree maintenance at the hottest and coldest times of the year to minimize the risk of creating new infection.   Both brothers cane out to our 6 acre lot to give an evaluation of where we stood. Currently we have over 150 oaks on the property many in clusters.

They were very clear that we had absolutely no issues or dangers and their services would not be required.

As great as that was to hear, they walked the property for about 45 minutes and gave me insights into how oak wilt occurs and taught me when, where and how to cut as well as recommendations for general clean-up of juniper and cedar that I’d like to remove.

It’s been 60 days since their visit and I’ve been able to implement their advice to great satisfaction.

When offerring to pay for the consult they refused payment and said they were happy to build the relationship.
